Mentor-Wendy

In 1999 my cosy pre-baby existence was turned upside down with the arrival of my first son, Ben. For the first three weeks my darling bundle of joy seemed to be awake and crying 24 hours a day and I was soon physically and emotionally exhausted.

I gathered the little strength I had left and with a befuddled brain I used the experience gained as an academic researcher to systematically search for a solution. After reading about twenty baby behaviour and care books, I’d failed to find one perfect solution, but I took the most sensible and practical bits from each.

In time I managed to sort out my baby’s sleep problem and learned a lot in the process. Three children and lots more research later, I’d adapted my techniques to fit the individual needs of each. As my older children started school I had more time to organise my notes and so “The Baby Sleep System” was born.

Since that time I have helped thousands of families via the book and this forum.

How to Use the Baby Sleep Answers Forum

There are two ways to use the support forum.

Main Forum

Firstly you can post a new topic (click on New Topic at the top of the page). Other forum members and/or the Dream Team will respond and do their best to help you.
The Forum is designed to be used for quick questions and answers and you will need your book to hand to refer to. You should stick to one thread even if you think you are asking a question about a different sleep issue. This is so that the Dream Team can see what advice has already been offered and the full details of the case to date.
We aim to get back to you within 24 hours - questions are answered in the order that they were posted. You will therefore get a faster response if you ask a question and then wait for a reply, rather than posting a second question a few hours later. It is also helpful if you complete your profile so that we can see the exact age of your baby (this is updated automatically).
You can also use the search tool at the top of the page to look for posts from parents who are experiencing similar problems.

One to One Consultations

If you need a full review of your case, a personal plan and regular questions answered throughout the day, then a one to one consultation is the way to go.

Click on New Topic and then follow the one-to-one online sleep consultation link. From there you can access our consultation service where you will receive one-to-one support from one of our sleep mentors.

Hi
We have a 13 month old boy who has never been a great sleeper, but things are getting very worse! we follow the same rotine every night, bath, bottle and put to bed in his cot in his own room, still half a sleep. I stay with him till he falls off, just by placing my hand on his back. He will then wake 2 hours at around 9pm, then nearly every 2 hours. We have started to give him 2 bottles agin during the night as only way to settle him back. We both are full time working parents..and this is causing problems in all aspects of oor lifes..PLEASE can anyone help????

Very tired, fed up, and pulling my hair out Mummy.

Hi sleepy7044 & welcome to the forum

Sorry you haven't had a reply yet - it's because you've posted your question as a reply to the "How to the use the forum" thread. You'll need to create your own thread so that the Dream Team can reply to you with advice & help & you can come back with any further questions. To do that, click the "New Topic" button at the top of the page & enter your initial question there. You can copy & paste what you've already typed above using the right mouse button or ctrl+c / ctrl+v.

Oh Bless you! It's so hard to work full time and be a perfect Mum. There's no such thing, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

I'm a Mum of 3 adults and 9 grandchildren, and none of us is perfect but we do what we can to help our kids.

Firstly, giving him a bottle will encourage him to wake for it. Maybe his back teeth are coming through. They can be a big problem for toddlers. Try some Calpol and a cuddle when he wakes, but then put him back in his own bed.

You have to avoid giving him anything that will "reward" him for waking, because it will tend to encourage waking. You're right with the routines, don't stop doing them.
