Topic: Day time naps

Day time naps

Hiya. Firstly - a huge thank you. Following a combination of gradual withdrawel and PU/PD followed by CC my daughter has been sleeping through the night for the last week. She goes down by 7.30pm and wakes at between 5 and 5.30am. I try to keep her in her cot until 6am but if she gets in a state I get her up 10 mins or so early. This is massive for me as I had a child that woke every 2 hours from birth so I really don't know myslef now.

However, since getting the nights cracked she is not sleeping well during the day. She will only sleep for 30 mins - you can set your watch by it. She usually almost falls asleep in her highchair over breakfast so I have to keep her going and manage to do so until between 8 amd 9 when she has her first 30 min sleep. Her second sleep in at around 1pm and again she will just sleep for 30 mins. She needs more as she is so tired and irritable during the day so it is not that she has had enough sleep. Also, when she wakes up she is still so sleepy and obviously tired but will not go back to sleep. The last I spoke with you I was advised to continue with cuddling her to sleep during the day so that is what I am doing however it does feel a little wrong as she no longer needs this at night.

Any advice on the early waking and daytime naps much appreceated thank you.

Hi, firstly great news on the night times, well done! now for the daytime naps, is she being put down in a cot the same as at night ?and going forwards I would start putting her down awake rather than cuddling her to sleep so that she recognises it's sleep time the same as at bedtime.

Hiya, yes she usually sleeps in her cot during the day except for the odd occasion when she will be in the car or pushchair. So I should just put her in her cot, as I do at night, and walk away so that she gets herself to sleep? So then I would do the cc checking on her as I did when I started to use CC.

OK, I will give this a go from Monday as this weekend we will be a bit all over the place.

Anything else I could do for the early waking?

Thank you!

Pupdcd is better to use during the day for naps-not sure why but it seems to have a much better success rate.
Re the mornings-just keep persevering with keeping her in the cot until 6am. If she has only just started sleeping through, it will take her body a bit of time to adjust to what is going on. Try not to get her before 6am even if she is screaming, just keep going in to check on her.
