Confirmation on PUPDCD technique

We have been using the PUPDCD method with our nearly 6 month old and ditched the dummy for 3 nights now and for naps during the day.

I have read your advice on other topics suggesting only using PUPDCD for one nap a day to start with and also using pushchair/sling etc for daytime naps until he gets use to not having his dummy.

The first two nights he cried a lot and we used the method until he fell asleep. Now he is not crying as much but is moaning a lot (loudly) and rolling around his cot, sometimes he starts crying. I am a bit confused as to when to pick up and put down and when to start the timings from. i.e. Do I do 20 minutes from when I put him in his cot whether he is crying on not. If he then starts crying after say 10mins do I only PUPD for 10mins before Cd. Also should I not do any pick up put down at any time when he is moaning rather than crying?
