My 17th month old waking in the night

Hi,

My 17th Month old girl has been waking in the night for a few weeks now, the odd night she may sleep through!!! I leave her for about 10 mins to see if she settles, but no luck!!!

She is not in pain and don't think that she is hungry as I offer her a little bit of milk but she only takes a few sips!! eventually she will go back to sleep, but it then takes me ages to go back off!

Any advice would be greatly received, would love a full nights sleep, she was doing really well after I used the sleep system, but seems to have a blip.

Thanks

Hi Michelle. Please can you let us know Rosie Jean's daily routine-how long is she napping for? What time does she go to bed? Does she self settle etc.
First of all, stop the milk. She doesn't need it and will begin to expect it. If it is hot and you think she is thirsty, offer her some water.
If you can give us some details about her routine, that will help. It could just be that you need to cut back on naps if she is sleeping too much during the day.

She can wake up from any time of 6am to 7.30am will have a nap at 9am which can be up to 1.75 hours. She will then have a nap in the afternoon about 3pm from 45mins to 1.50hrs. she will then have a bath at around 6.30, milk at 7pm ish and in bed by 7.30. She settles herself to sleep at Bedtime with no problem at all which is great !

I will stop the milk tonight and just give her water if she wakes.

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

When she wakes through the night, don't offer her anything other than plain water and only then if she has been crying for a prolonged length of time. If she isn't crying then don't go in at all and if she is pop in every 10, 15 and then every 20 minutes to reassure her and check she is ok. A few nights of consistency should sort her out.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for your reply, she did quite well last night, she woke about 11.30pm, I left her and she went back off on her own about 11.45pm and then she woke about 12.25 for couple of minute's, then slept till 7pm.

We will have to see how tonight goes.

Thanks again for everyones help.

Hi Michelle, that was great. How did she get on last night?

Hi Jenny,

Rosie did ok last night, she woke at about 2.30 with a little cry and went back to sleep after about 5 mins. She has just woken up now and went crazy for about 5 mins and has now gone back to sleep.

I do find it had to listen to her cry but I can see a result with this. We will have to see how she does for the rest of the night.

Do you think it will be long before she starts to go through again??

Thanks

Michelle

Hi All,

Rosie went to bed last night at 7pm with no crying and woke at 6.50am with not a sound all night.

Im sure we will have blips again so I will do the same as this time.

Thank you for all your help.
