Topic: Ditching the dummy

Ditching the dummy

Erin is now 7 month 1 week. The reflux has massively improved. So yesterday i started to 'Ditch the Dummy'.

By all means this has not been an easy 24 hour! But I'm determind to get a full nights sleep at the end of this so that's what is keeping me strong.

Our first nap yesterday was so short as she just couldn't settle at all. Then we had lunch and cried more and more and more but eventually gave in for 20 mins and then cried again. So we went for a drive and then slept for nearly 2hrs, I didn't drive all that time mind.

Last night wasn't as babd as I expected to be honest. Yes she woke but settled after half an hour of PUPD.

She was awake by 6am (usually just happy in cot until 6.30-45) But not today so we eventually went downstairs about 6.30 after nappy changed etc. Had bottle and breakfast normally back to bed 8.30-45 but went at 9 (thought if a little more tired might be easier to get off?) It took about 20 mins to settle her, and she's still asleep now.

So I feel I'm not doing too bad but it does break my heart seeing her so upset but I feel she'll get over it easier than I will from not having a full nights kip!

Anyway I'll keep u posted and fingers crossed it won't last too long......I just hope she doesn't develop another sleep problem from this.

Any advice anyone if I'm doing this right or support in how long this will take?

A tired Mummy but hopefully not for too long now.

You have made a fantastic start. If you stay consistent, she should be sleeping much better by the middle of next week.

I just want to say a massive thank you for all the advice. Its now been 9 days since we stuck to your routines and Erin has changed amazingly. She had forgotten about the dummy by day 3 and her sleeping at night improved by around the same time. By day 5 she would stir mayb twice during the night and re settled herself but now she goes to bed about 7.45 sleepy but still awake and doesn't stir til normally 6.30am, this morning was 7am then we do our daily routine. My husband has been off this week we've been going off for days so Erin has been sleeping in the car or pram while out, not to the lenghs previously, i just hope next week she'll sleep in her cot during the day.

But we'd like to say huge Thank you yr system works and have helped us so much with results in only 3 days. Thanks again.
