Hi, I'm 32 and am a first time mother to a lovely, feisty little girl. A few months ago, we used the system to get her naps and night time sleeping in order. She had picked up lots of bad habits, including only settling when being held and not being able to soothe herself to sleep. We've seen a massive improvement in her sleeping, so much so that she even talks to her toys for an hour in the morning if she wakes up early! So far so good, although I'm sure something new will challenge us over the coming months!!

Dropping morning naps and effect on routine

Hi
My little girl is a wonderful sleeper thanks to the routines and advice on this site. She's at that in-between stage now with the morning nap. I had originally cut it down to 1/2 hour between 9.15 and 9.45 but when waking her up she was so foul all morning and so grumpy that I decided to drop it.

What seems to happen at the moment is one of the two following

Either

1) She falls asleep in the buggy / car for ten minutes and is then quite sleepy but ok. She then has lunch at 11.45 and goes to sleep at 12.15 for at least 1 1/2 hours.

Or
2) She misses the sleep completely, is ok in the morning and then falls asleep on our way home and demands to go to bed. She will go straight to bed at around 11.15 and sleep for 1 1/2 hours. I then give her lunch late.

Can you advise me on the best way to handle this? How long will this stage last? Is it best to actually put her down to sleep or should I carry on doing what I'm doing?

Looking forward to hearing from someone

Ele

Hi Ele, I would stay flexible and just go with the flow - option 1 or 2 is fine at this stage and eventually she will just stop sleeping in the morning.
