Karen and Henry (7 Months Old)
Karen and her two children Henry and Harvey live in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
She started The Baby Sleep System
when Henry was 7 months old. Henry had a severe
dummy dependency and a number of food related problems. Wendy advised Karen to seek
help from her Health Visitor around the food issues and then helped her to
work out a suitable strategy to help move Henry towards sleeping through the night.
The Strategy
The Baby Sleep System offers a selection of methods for dealing with night-time
waking, early rising and inadequate naps. Karen was not comfortable using
a "cry it out" method and opted for a "no cry" solution to deal with
Henry's night-time waking. The dummy was taken out of the equation and Henry
was no longer allowed to use his bottle to get him to sleep. Karen initially
found it very difficult to stick to the plan because of several phases of
illness and dealing with the needs of her other child. She got through
these periods by posting daily on the
Baby Sleep Answers Forum and gained new confidence and
techniques to deal with Henry's continued night-time waking.
The Result
After 4 weeks Henry was sleeping for longer periods and was settling much better.
The whole family could see that he was a much happier baby. A few weeks later
he was consistently sleeping through the night and waking at a reasonable
time. He was finally taking two good naps during the day.
Karen's last post on the forum read:
"Thank you so much Wendy I could not have done it without your
support and direction and do now feel able to deal with any inevitable blips.
It must feel so nice to be able to help so many people. I shall continue to spread
the word about your book and site.
Many thanks"
